Living Water Adult Leader Information

Our Living Water Adult Leaders are truly the backbone of our program and are incredible witnesses of faith in action! There is no prerequisite for being a small group or welcome team leader; you don't need to be a theologian, teacher, or have any experience leading students. We will provide you with all materials, training, and support to make a deep and lasting impact in the lives of our middle schoolers.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Small group leaders will journey with a group of 6+ students each Wednesday evening to connect, lead interactive discussions, and have fun! Leaders will be provided with a Leader Guide each week, training along the way, and support from our welcome team, to ensure that everyone feels safe and affirmed.

Your Role as a Living Water Leader:

  • Provide a safe space for faith and life exploration.

  • Model healthy mentor and peer relationships.

  • Plant seeds of faith while leaving space for questions and a wide range of perspectives.

  • Hold space for imperfection, growth, struggle, and new ideas.

  • Welcome and affirm all students and leaders with Open Hearts, Open Minds, and an Open Table.

  • Have Fun!!!

CONFIDENTIAL BACKGROUND CHECKS

Creating a safe environment for our children and adolescents is of the utmost importance at SOLLC. All adult volunteers working with minors are required to submit to a confidential criminal background check every other year. Background information is confidential and follow-up will only occur should something flag on your report. All adult volunteers must have a current background check on file to be eligible to volunteer with minors. Please follow the steps below to complete your background check application and review all Mandated Reporter expectations.

MORE LEADER INFO

Mandated Reporting

As adult leaders working with minors, we are called to be aware of and report any suspected abuse or neglect in our community. It is crucial that you read the Mandated Reporting & Best Practices Guide. If you have any questions regarding your role as a mandated reporter, please contact John Holt at johnholt@sollc.org.

Absences

If you know you will be absent on a night you are leading, please try to find another parent or leader to take your place. If you are sick or have an emergency, do your best to let us know so we can find coverage for your group. For questions on leader absences, please email ericfoerster@sollc.org or laurieschafroth@sollc.org.

LEADER GUIDES

Shepherd of the Lake will provide you with a very simple and straightforward leader guide that will connect to the evening's theme and message. Our goal for each session is for you to have time to connect, read the Bible, have faithful discussions, and pray together.
